Bio
I am the owner of Pleasant Puppy and I'd like to thank you
for your visit and offer some personal background info so you can get a better
idea of who I am and what my experience is.
I've been caring for animals since I was very young and have
been volunteering through out my life in helping many different animals grow
and thrive. It is something that I truly love. I was always trying to get as
close as possible and learn as much as possible about animals, both wild and
tame. When I was 10 and living in Alaska
my family got me and my younger brother into a volunteer program that rears
abandoned wild baby birds to release back into the wild. They trained us how to
feed them using a syringe and care for them during different parts of their development,
a couple weeks later we were sent home with a nest of four songbirds. These
guys needed constant care from 5:30 am to 8:30 pm. This included feeding them
with a syringe every 15 minutes and
between that there was making their food,
cleaning their cage/nest, keeping my cat from eating them and when they got
older catching bugs for them along with constant watching to make sure they
weren't getting in to trouble or getting hurt. Me and my brother worked in 2
hour sifts from sun up to sun down. All four made it and were released back
into the wild. This experience taught me a lot of responsibility and I
continued raising baby birds on and off through out my life. Then in 2004 I volunteered
dog walking at the local human society. I was very interested in learning dog
training and dog behavior and started training the dogs in my care basic dog
walking manners and obedience. This was important because it gave dogs a
greater chance of getting adopted sooner as others would see how well behaved
they were and would become interested. Many would pull at first, and some had
never been walked on a leash and would jump, roll and pull to try and brake
away, but with some patience and persistence they would learn to relax and
enjoy the walk by my side. I gained a better understanding about how to care
for dogs with many different needs and backgrounds such as dogs with high
anxiety and dogs with injuries from being hit by cars. Many of them have
touched my heart and I will never forget. I have also raised a few cats that I
consider part of my family.
As a hobby I do a lot of research on care for exotic pets of
all types such as kinkajous and sugar gliders. I also research dog breeds,
training techniques, dog & general animal behavior, a little on parrot
species and the methods of care each different type need and a bit on pet
nutrition.
